Baby bumps and Bookshelves

As promised, I FINALLY took a pregnancy picture! This is me at 25 weeks I still can't believe I'm over half way there!

Right before Kevin and I got married we inherited a black bookshelf from his brother and sister in-law.  It had been spray painted several years ago but definitely had it's fair share of scratches from a few moves.  I had tried to patch it up once but just made it look worse so we had this kind of ghetto piece of furniture.  Since we have ZERO kitchen space I couldn't justify giving it away because it is so nice to have so I have been wanting to paint it for a while now but didn't exactly want to spend tons of money on the paint.  So since we didn't have anything to do this saturday we made a trip to home depot and stopped by the oops paint station.  I was sort of hoping for a grey or charcoal but had no luck.  There was however a plum that I really liked but didn't think Kevin would ever go for.  We walked around for a little and then I decided I wanted to go with the purple so we bought the paint, came home and got to work....
! I loved the way it turned out {so did kev} ! I feel like our front room is so much more welcoming now and I can actually have people over ha.
and this is what the finished product looks like.
of course I forgot a "before" picture

After we finished painting we were sitting down and Kev looked at me and said "hey do you want to go on a date with me tonight?"  It took me by surprise because I was not expecting it and I loved it! Since we live in Elko there's not really a lot to do we don't go out super often so when we do it's extra special and fun.  Kevin kept hearing about this good chinese place out in Carlin {about a twenty minute drive for us} called Chins.  He kept telling me he would take me there and I kept teasing him that he wasn't following through. It has been a while since just the two of us have been out without any friends so we got ready and got in the car to make the drive.  It was a lot of fun and the food was really yummy we'll have to go back for sure! It  reminded me of our dating days and how lucky I am that Kevin wanted to marry me, he's the best!

Cribs and Clothes

Since the last two posts didn't have pictures I thought I would take pictures of some of the cute things we've been given for our little guy!

We got our crib! Its so strange to see it in that bedroom and we still have tons to do and get before he gets here but the crib is a good start!
The cute blanket my mom gave us, it has little animals knit into it, so cute!

Some bibs and some onesies that my sister gave Kevin for Christmas, they all have cute sayings and I love the colors of the onesies.  I look at them sometimes and think oh my gosh these are so little I can't believe that I'm going to be responsible for someone so little in a few months!

These are my favorite, I love the little bear on the bum! So cute!

I can't wait to see him wear all of these!

The Reality

**Note** this is a SUPER long post and mostly facts about things I want to remember about my first two trimesters.  Just be prepared!!!

Today I am twenty five weeks exactly!  First day of my third trimester!!!  I have tried to write in my journal a few of the things I wanted to remember during the first two trimesters but I'm almost as bad at that as I am updating the blog.  I do want to be able to come back and remember some of the fun {and not so fun} facts about this pregnancy though so that I can compare them with future pregnancies or just look back and smile.

Like I said in my last post, I was just starting a new semester at school when we found out that we were going to be having a baby.  I figured if I got sick then having something like school would be good for me to focus on rather than the way I felt.  I couldn't have been more WRONG.  I made it through almost three full weeks of classes and had killed my first tests!! I was actually looking forward to school again.  My few summer classes had gone really well for me and I felt like it was a good time and place for me to start again.  Although the thought of school terrifies me I knew it would be different having the support of a husband as good as Kevin and not having to worry about work or kids yet, but then I started to get sick.  Really sick.  It started about six weeks for me and at first I was just super tired and had a really hard time making it to my classes in the mornings which was when I was feeling my worst and would go to my afternoon classes.  Then shortly after that it became pretty much impossible to leave my bed if not to go to the toilet.  At first Kevin had a hard time accepting the fact that I couldn't go to classes and would probably be dropping out but then I think he spent a few days with me at home and understood.
  • I threw up almost everyday.  If I didn't throw up several times in one day it was a good day.
  • I loved cereals, especially lucky charms
  • I loved hot cocoa.  I would have at least one glass a day
  • The thought of meat made me dry heave and as a result poor Kevin hardly ever got a home cooked meal
  • Tomatoes are pretty much the sickest things I have ever laid eyes on I still can hardly eat them. When I first got sick we had a surplus of them laying around the house and I would walk into the kitchen, see them and go running to the bathroom.  They HAD to leave.  Kevin took them to work.
  • Bananas were also not good.  We had an overly ripe one in the house that I kept smelling at the beginning that didn't sit well with me.  Those are starting to get better.
  • Multi-vitamins were NOT happening.
  • I made frequent fast food runs a cheeseburger and fries almost always sounded good to me and I hardly if ever threw them up.
  • Peppermint candies really helped ease my stomach when it started to churn.
  • My doctor told me to try an over-the-counter medication called Emetrol.  Its like this cherry flavored cough syrup stuff that is supposed to help with Nausea.  I took one sip of it and if I didn't want to throw up before the medicine I definitely did afterwards.  Pretty much the sickest thing I have ever had.
  • Ginger ale helped sometimes too.
  • getting up and getting in the shower took all of my energy.
  • Leggings are my absolute favorite!
  • I have the BEST husband.  He was so great through all of it.  He did his own cooking and made his own lunches, {which he hates doing} he did all the grocery shopping and the laundry and cleaned the house.  He bought me pretty much anything and everything that he thought would help me feel better.  Bottom line he is the greatest, I am so lucky that he is mine forever I really don't know what I would do without him.
About 17 or 18 weeks was when I really started to feel better.  During the first part I would occasionally have a really good day and it would remind me how nice it was to feel good and have good health.  Something I am very grateful for!  I definitely took advantage of the good days and used those days to grocery shop or clean up the house or just enjoy not being sick! I honestly thought several times during my first tri, I don't know how people have more than one child.  I could barely take care of myself during that time I can't imagine taking care of another toddler who needs my help.  But I know it is possible and I pray that someday when that times comes for our family it will be well worth it and I will be able to make it through.  Some facts about my second tri...
  • I first felt the baby move at sixteen weeks.  We were in Logan for Thanksgiving and I was sitting on my in laws rocking chair with my legs up against my chest and felt those little flutters.
  • I first started to really show at about twenty weeks.  And for the most part I am still able to wear my pre pregnancy clothes.  Thank goodness for leggings!
  • Our little boy is very  active.
  • I LOVE to lay in bed in the mornings with my hand on my stomach and feel him move around. sometimes his jabs hurt but I still love it more than anything.  Probably my favorite part of day.
  • Kevin felt him move at the beginning of December, I was probably about 18 weeks.
  • Cooking is much easier this tri.
  • I felt like the first trimester was forever long but the second one has flown by!
  • My lower back has hurt really bad for almost my whole pregnancy especially after I walk a lot like doing the grocery shopping but as a result I get at least one massage a week.  Lucky me!!
  • I still love cold cereals and usually have at least one bowl a day.
  • I started "nesting" by de-junking our spare bedroom a few weeks ago.  I didn't think we were going to be able to fit baby and all of his stuff but with some pretty major changes and getting rid of a lot of stuff and reorganizing I am feeling much happier about our small apartment being able to fit our little man.
  • We set up our crib a few weeks ago! I can't believe there will be an actual baby in there in a little over three months!
  • I have a series of three doctors and a midwife at my OB office and so far I have really liked them all.  I still have yet to meet one of them
I have really enjoyed my second trimester and I hope that the last one is just as enjoyable! We are so excited for May to come and to meet our little man.

Finding out the big news!

I keep meaning to update the blog especially about my Pregnancy! But I have zero pictures and more than half the fun of blogs are seeing pictures but I decided that i need to just do it before it get to be too late and I forget about half the things i want to blog about and pictures will just have to come after they are taken.

First and foremost.  I am pregnant! My due date is May 4th and we are having a baby BOY and could not be more excited!  We had decided to grow our little family when Kevin first got his new job.  Originally the plan was to move to Elko for a year and give Kevin the chance to get into Dental school and then leave on our next journey but it's starting to look more and more like this is where we'll end up.  We have loved elko and my husband has loved his job.  Funny how things work out! Anyway we figured that a year out of school with a good job and good benefits would be the perfect time to have a baby!

I was so nervous, pretty much all ive ever wanted is to be a mom and i was most scared that we would try and try and try to have kids and it wouldn't happen or it would take forever and that scared me. a lot.  Thankfully we had zero trouble and I got pregnant right away.  I do know how much of a blessing that is and I am so grateful for that, I can't imagine the struggle that couples and families go through who desire nothing else but to have a family and just cant.

In late August I had my period, or so i thought.  It was just spotting and i thought it was a little unusual that it was so light but figured I wasn't pregnant and I didn't want to get my hopes up. But I read in one of my pregnancy books that it is very common so I convinced Kevin that we needed to go get a pregnancy test. Unfortunately we decided to go to walmart which is always the busiest place in elko plus we had to return something and customer service took FOREVER! {I was slightly anxious}. I read the directions for the test in the car and when we finally got home I peed on the stick.  I knew that waiting for those three minutes would feel like forever and I was so scared that it would tell me I wasn't pregnant Kevin had the video camera out and ready to read the big news and surprisingly it only took a few seconds before that magical word popped up on the little window! I just started to laugh and then started to cry I was so excited and couldn't believe what was happening! We were just so thrilled by the good news.

Immediately afterwards we called our families to share the good news and they were all very excited for us as well.  At the time I had just started a new semester of school after deciding that I was going to go back and try to at least get my Associates degree while we were in Elko.  Little did I know that it wouldn't last long.

Since I have taken forever to update on this exciting event I think I'll break it up into different posts so that its not so daunting and easier for me to find something if I want to look back someday.  So until next post!

Happenings

Well since the last time I updated was in the beginning of November here is what we have been up to! My brother got married on November 19th to a cute girl named Kina, we love her!

Since they got married the week before Thanksgiving Kevin just decided to take the next week off too and we stayed in Utah.  Kevin got to go hunting and I got to spend some time with old friends, and do a little shopping! Kevin and his dad had tons of success hunting which was so fun for him and he loved it!
{Sad, I know}

We had a fun Thanksgiving with Kevin's family and then came back to elko for a few more weeks before we left for almost half of December and through the new year.  We decided to have our own Thanksgiving dinner once we got back to enjoy the leftovers that come with the wonderful holiday.  I was super nervous about the turkey turning out since i had never done one but it turned out great and we had some friends over and ate some yummy food!

Before we left we decided we would do our own Christmas for each other so we wouldn't have to pack everything on our flight. I had no idea what Kevin was getting me even though i tried so hard to get him to give me some sort of hint but he's such a good liar! Anyway I was completely surprised when i opened one of my gifts to find a ticket to the show WICKED! Kevin has seen it before and has always said he wanted to take me but theyre coming to salt lake this summer and we're going! Im very excited! The other thing he got me was the diaper bag i wanted! He definitely spoiled me this year.  What did Kevin get? Tools and clothes from me.  Exciting for him!

The next morning we drove to Utah and stayed the night at Kevin's grandparents house so that we could be closer to the airport.  Our flight ended up being delayed but only for an hour so it wasn't too bad and we finally made it to snowy Colorado.  It was so much fun being with my family for Christmas. Kevin had the rest of the year off of work so after Denver we flew into Salt lake and stayed in Logan with Kevin's family through New years, It was fun to have everyone there together again!

We had tons of fun this Holiday season and feel so lucky and blessed to have the friends and family that we do. It is so nice that we live close enough to be able to come visit as often as we do.  After two weeks of being gone though it was nice to be back home and settle back into our quiet lives.  Only a few more months before there's another addition to our family and we couldn't be more excited!! {I'll update more on our little guy in another post}
